EKIN committed to the aeronautical sector more than a decade ago, a strategic decision that today translates into a highly specialised business unit. This is a particularly demanding sector from a technical point of view, where precision, reliability and traceability are essential. In this context, R&D has become a fundamental pillar for the company, which has numerous research projects funded both by the Basque Government, through SPRI, and by the CDTI at the national level.
EKIN’s history dates back to 1963. Since then, the company has positioned itself as an international benchmark in the manufacture of high-precision broaching and rolling machines and tools for grooves, teeth and threads. The Biscayan firm collaborates with the most technologically demanding companies, offering advanced solutions for key sectors such as automotive, aeronautics and power generation.
Due to the very nature of these markets, continuous innovation is not an option, but a necessity. The constant evolution of manufacturing and verification technologies requires a firm commitment to research. In this regard, EKIN benefits from a privileged environment, with a solid network of technology centres and the proximity of leading companies.
Ekin has four centres of its own spread across three continents: Amorebieta and Lemoa, Gurgaon (India) and Querétaro (Mexico).
Projects such as Brososote, Hatasu, Lehiakor and Eragin, funded by the Basque Government through SPRI, reinforce EKIN’s commitment to advanced, competitive and sustainable industry, incorporating technologies such as artificial intelligence and new models of responsible production. Among the most notable initiatives funded by the CDTI are Fausto and Brodur.
In the aeronautical field, Fausto will enable sensors to be integrated into the broaching machine to assess the wear and tear on each tooth of the broach, preventing catastrophic breakages. Brodur seeks to develop new broaches and the conceptual design of a high-speed broaching machine, capable of maximising performance, reducing environmental impact and positioning EKIN as an international benchmark in this type of technology.
EKIN’s maxim is clear: to grow alongside its customers, offering them innovative, high-quality tools with a long service life. With four centres on three continents — Amorebieta and Lemoa in Bizkaia, Gurgaon in India and Querétaro in Mexico — and a workforce of more than 325 people, EKIN is consolidating its solid growth and undisputed leadership in the global market.
